Our Free Farmers’ Market
On the fourth Saturday of each month, we setup a “Free Farmers’ Market” at the Resource Center at Mariners Church in Irvine, California. Our volunteers arrive around noon and we begin setting up tables. Shortly after, the produce distributor we work with arrives and we unload the produce and finish setting up. After a brief volunteer orientation, we welcome our guests to come through the “market” and select the items they would like. While we place limits on certain items based on quantity, we are generally blessed to be able to be generous. Before leaving, guests are gently offered prayer by our caring prayer team. After all guests have come through, we tear down the tables and clean up as needed.
who can volunteer
Anybody! We have diverse volunteers from a wide array of backgrounds serving with us for a wide array of reasons. The only thing we need to agree on is that on this given day, time and place, we are going to join together and make the world a better place.
who can receive food
Our events are intended for low-income elderly, families and individuals in need of fresh fruits and vegetables. We welcome guests from throughout Orange County, California. The only qualification is that you actually need the produce we offer. While we do offer prayer, it is not mandatory and we welcome guests from all backgrounds. We begin welcoming guests into the market between 1 and 1:30 PM. Guests line up on a first-come, first-served basis. The event typically ends between 2:30 and 3 PM. The Mariners Church Resource Center, which offers clothing and a wide-array of other items at extremely low cost, is open for guests to shop until about 1 PM. We encourage guests to check it out while waiting for our market to open.
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
